Once you got your Xbox 360 apart and the motherboard rate in front of you (main circuit board) it’s time for the penny fix.
Things you’ll need to make it work.
1. A new role of pennies
2. Roll of black tape
3. Electrical Glue
So this is what you do, the steps to take.
Take 2 to 3 pennies; stack them on top of each other so it looks 2 to 3 pennies thick.
Take your electrical tape; wrap the pennies so there’s no copper showing at all (make four separate stacks of 3 stack pennies).
On each ram chip use a very small amount of hot glue to stick the stacked of wrapped penny’s to the ram (if you don’t have a hot glue gun, you can use women’s salon nail pads) they work good and don’t leave an ugly mess behind when you take the pennies back off later!
When putting your screws back in, if you used three pennies for your stack don’t screw in the black screws that hold the CPU in GPU – leave them off.
Scroll all the other screws in slow evenly finally tightening them, making sure that all the inputs match up correctly with the holes in the metal casings.

In order to completely take apart your Xbox 360, you’re going to need a few tools.
Caution: if your Xbox is still covered under the warranty its recommended that you have Microsoft fix the problem for you at no cost, however if you’re not covered under the warranty and you have the money, “around $120 “then you can also have Microsoft fix the problem.

- One flat head screwdriver
- One regular screwdriver (Philips)
- T8 screwdriver and T10 screwdriver

I’m going to briefly go over what you can do to fix this problem, to start off, you’re going to need to manually take your console apart, make sure to label every single piece all the way down to the screws, so you know exactly where each one goes when putting it back together, I find it much easier that way, instead of trying to remember everything.
To let you know, there’s just no way around it, you have to dismantle your console to fix this problem, you could of course hire someone to do it for you, or if your still covered under the warranty, let Microsoft fix it, if not get this Xbox 360 repair guide, you can bet it’s going to go over the steps one heck of allot better than I am in this article.
Ok, let’s get to the problem.
Unplayable Disc Error: After you have your console apart or at least to the point where you can see the DVD drive, the next step to actually take the disc drive cover off, after that, you’re going to need to completely remove all the screws that are holding the disc drive in place. Make sure to unplug the two cords on the back of drive before pulling it out.
Next: Once you have removed the disc drive from the console, flip it over and remove the two screws located on the back side of the disc drive, (also, make sure when you flip it over, not to scratch the lens).
Once you got that finished, the next step is to remove the circular rotor (motor) there will be 3 small screws, you’ll need a very small Allen (1.5 mm) wrench to remove them, after that, just gently push the lens upwards out of the way ,then pull the motor out. Once you’ve got the motor out, you can pull off the motor wheel (black round wheel), there will be a little rod, prong thing, and this is exactly what’s causing your Xbox 360 to have the unplayable disc error, so what you need to do, once you get to this point, is to just clean off all the excess grease on the rod that’s attached to the motor wheel, you can use rubbing alcohol, then get some lubricant (W-D 40) spay it on the part (the wheel) and gently place it back onto the motor and that’s it, all you need to do after that is put your Xbox 360 back together.
Hopefully you took my advice in the beginning and labeled everything first, so you don’t have to remember how to put it back together.
How the Unplayable Disc Error Happened:
What happens overtime, is excess grease builds up the motor wheel causing it to jam up and not spin like it’s supposed to, so by doing this repair technique, it should defiantly fix the problem.

Looking through various different websites, I’ve come to the conclusion that this problems is too just as common as the 3 red light error that almost 70% of all Xbox 360 owners run into.
What you can do to fix the problem is rather simple and no, do not go taking your Xbox 360 apart just yet, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing, it may seem simple watching someone doing it on YouTube, but more than likely their not always going to show you step by step and you’ll inevitably end up getting lost along the way sort a speak ending up with extra parts like you did when you were kid taking apart your toys and trying to put them back together.
So, the first thing you can consider where the problem actually originates, is the GPU processor (Graphics Processing Unit) the funny thing is, allot of people think they can actually make a difference or control the GPU (trick it) into working again by placing a small magnet or any other type of small item on it. The simple fact is, their getting lucky. The only down fall with this technique, is you have to partially take your console apart to get to the GPU processor and that alone is one daunting task and without any directions, if you do it alone, you’re a brave sole.
Ok, so what you can do to fix the 1 red light error – e 74, but only if you’re Microsoft warranty has expired, if not, then it’s strongly recommended you let Microsoft repair the problem for you without costing you a penny. If you prefer having Microsoft fix this problem for you even if you’re warranty has expired, please be aware, it’s going to be quite expensive, in fact most repairs generally cost around $140 - $180 with a 3 week waiting time and no guarantee the problem will be fixed.
The Solution: You can go to the extreme and make sure you fix the problem the first time around by either replacing the GPU processor or using another familiar method known as the X-clamp fix, but before you go either way, make sure it’s not an AV cable or the "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection inside the console it’s self.
You’re best bet, would be to go the easy route first, making sure your AV cords are working properly first, you can test them on a friends Xbox 360 console or by taking them directly to an electronics store, 60% of the time, you’ll find this is the exact problem.
Next, you can check the HANA chip, located on the inside of the Xbox 360 near where the AV plugs in, so when you get to this point, obviously you can rule out your AV cable being broken and have the problem narrowed down enough to know it’s either the GPU or the HANA chip, take your pick because there’s no other way to fix it and the only way is to replace either or, by that time, you can try the X-clamp fix that also works for the 1 red light error and not just the 3 red light error.
I have a guide in mind to fix that problem alone, you’ll also discover some "how to tricks" that will show you how to modify your Xbox 360 and keep great preventive maintenance which I find is the best warranty of all.

6. Select Yes
Clear Any Failed system updates that cause the console to error.
1. With the console off, press and hold the sync up button (the small white one)
2. While holding the sync button, press the power button on.
3. Continue to hold the sync button until the Console has finished booting up.
4. During the boot process the console should clear any failed updates, allowing you to use it normally.
This easy fix, works the majority of the time.
1. Make sure that the AV cable is correctly connected to the Xbox 360 console.
2. Disconnect the AV cable from the Xbox 360 console, and then reconnect the AV cable to the Xbox 360 console.
3. If the four flashing red lights continue to flash, try wiping the metal area of the AV pack with a dry cloth. The metal area is the end that plugs into the console. Wipe the metal area thoroughly, and then try the AV Pack again.
4. If the AV cable is correctly connected but the four red lights are still flashing, substitute a different AV cable if you have one available.

The final technique you can do, is to keep or brush off all the dust that builds up on your console, just like most computers, as well as the Xbox 360 attract large amounts of dust that cling to your machine. By doing this, keeping your Xbox 36o clean, it too will also reduce the chances of it overheating or getting the 3 red light error code.
The three tips above should help you fix your Xbox and prevent game freezes and the red lights, however if you have already got the red lights then you will need to ring Microsoft support or find a way to repair it yourself.
